Portraits of Mankind

SkunkBeatManiac thumbnail
SkunkBeatManiac Talented folks from Italian MDM scene. Songs in this album are catchy, energetic and well structured while also being slightly progressive and technical. It is a hard style to come by but seems to be common among few Italian bands I'm fan of, namely Dark Lunacy, Coram Lethe and Disarmonia Mundi. Favorite track: Mine are Sorrow and Redemption.

"The correct injection of more recent influences act as a glue for this debut EP, helping you discover its rich sound and identity. Riffs and solos are structured to release all the genre potential and variety mixed with rhythm and emotive changes as well. This is even expressed through deep and mostly introspective-oriented lyrics. The vocals follow a classic growl technique, with mid-pitched and harsh singing that spreads throughout the EP with an aggressive tone."

All centuries flowed in depletion, pillaged through man greed, into a heritage of decline veiled as splendor and prosperity. Our history reaped to a wasteland, spent on selfish needs. From lounges of comfort, deep in neglect raised, to be unseen. So gleaming graves we dwell down there. Impassive to the harm of their voracity, culprits toast before this portrait of mankind. Avarice, wastage, pollution, exploitation, disregard, self-deception: faults renewed in grim firmness and through years slowly turned in bloodied brushes, drawing the modern man face. With rotten, soon pouring colors. Delighted by the outcomes of their malice, culprits gather and feast by this portrait of us. An agonizing world lost in wounds and abuse, left rotting unheard from a disease with no cure; unaware of that masterpiece featured at our museum of decadence, which won’t cease to be enhanced with further works of ignorance.
2.
Settled in a mire, in the sludge drained from too many inventions: there everyday shams flourish. Everyday guiltiness shapes and molds their ravaged conscience, kept caged and now smothered. Their falseness has got shrines built to last and to command the obsolete minds. Bowed in prayers for power and control, to proudly become devout servants of deceit, dried out of all the empathy. Forward to an age of subcracy, through words that mislead the masses thoughts; foreword to a dazed domain. Forward to an age of nethercracy. What else would you expect from those cripple buriers of morality, baptized in spiritual misery? Devout servants of hypocrisy, dried out of all the sympathy. Forward to an age of subcracy, through words that mislead the masses thoughts; foreword to reigns of feints. Forward to an age of nethercracy. We won’t conform to this falsehood dominion. We won’t lay blind nor be enfettered forever. We won’t let their lies shine upon the fooled. Individual coercion gained supremacy on the strength of human weakness...

By serenity forsaken, beside the edge of my most moribund season. Beyond the gate, warpaths wedging among thick menaces of distress. A crumbling cliff behind, as spectres of resignation were pursuing me above. I begun to drag myself along, choiceless, towards crossroads leading to any sort of inner clash. confident I would have met serenity anew at the vanishing of the smokes of wars to come. Weakened by countless attempts, as many as the gashes on my will, like an armor worn in those unbroken battles, I found myself castaway in one last tide of tears. By fortitude forsaken when adrift, then sunk in numbed senses. Winter of throes ceaselessly storming over. Pulled deeper down the frozen waters of defeat; those where the murk of thought dwells those where aims come in their burial depths. An assortment of fiends lurk while inhabit that seabed, gathered around tablefuls, amid soulwrecks and mind shreds. They bent me to feed on my own sanity. With them, gnawing the scraps of my reason. The apex of a dystopia: devoured from within my own self; a taint self, grown into a pasture for demons. Me as shepard, but dormant in undying feelings of sorrow and redemption. By consciousness, in the end, forsaken and misdirected along the overwhelming stream of time. Days lost any meaning, just slipping away before my statuary apathy; infusing me with more bitterness. By an amalgam of non-sights, I’m an internee in a mental cage. No iron bars, just alloys of torment. I waited for it to crumble down, for a long time, in narcotic grief. Since that last spiritual scourge, I only dreamt about what lies beyond, what keeps spuring us on from behind the scenes, so we can emerge from those acts of our lives. As stagnation ended its possession, I worn my will again to fight those demons. Victorious, I achieved my ego’s rebirth, beholding an Innerscape renewed.

There is no such place where my steps are more hesitant; and the dread of knowing tempts me to renounce unearthing what’s buried therein. Still buried at every dawn. There is not a farther place for knowledge; here all the empiric inquiry dies, while elusive answers and keys coexist with the human probe. In a perennial chase. I came down here wary and lonely, countless times. A lantern fired by doubts I only held in my shaking hands; no glare ever spread from its flame. For I fed it with even more fears, just to see it fading like all my efforts to cross this murk. Until I finally realized only the light of acceptance may illumine the stairway to the depths of myself. By those strides, daunted I reached a grim expanse. Tombstones shaped like masks behind which I used to hide, and epitaphs citing the emotions therein lying. The way ahead then led me to a maze of crazed mirrors, haunted by the ambitions and the infesting illusions from which they grown. Failure reflecting all around me, demeaning my being... As I raised the torch only shards of that warren remained. The lantern glow begun to weaken once I got into a vault, packed with piles of scrolls. Warped figures and words arouse and unfold all my insecurities now towering above. Overcame and bent by growing anguish, clutched in trepidation and fear. Is to set aflame this place with acceptance the only way out from here? As years flow away still I’m wondering, entrapped in hesitation; weary, the light's slipping out of my hand...

Verdant, and alluring colonnades along the journey, we walk with heartbeats of rousing youth, as our deepest longings echo, diffused, casting questions to the mind; our curiosity is seduced. Close to the discernment of our intentions. Hand in hand with insecurity, a faltering march across uncertain years. Thought still grows in eagerness, for the wonders no tale or dream could tell. I’ve seen horizons melt into a dark so cold, it just could not belong to this world. Inside which all the sprouts of our prospects vanish, by the past gorged. But where dismay comes meaningful, shining in answers by perseverance whispered. Then change claimed my form, yet not my soul. I strayed in false hopes and paths; self-faith days left a future foreseen. Days not just elapsed, but exiled from a stream of time once flowing in my awareness, what we call memories. Approaching a so pure, bitter comprehension of the being. Be worn out till you'll unite with each struggle, that keeps haunting all these expectations in bloom. To soothe reality with blindfolds on mind. I’ve seen ambitions dissolve in a dark so lone, it just could not belong to this world. From which the routes of our choices disperse, by the past crumbled. But where dismay comes meaningful, shining in coffers by perseverance crafted. Absorbed again in contemplation, before an arch: the colonnades end point. Obscurity fills the unknown awaiting beyond, as it guards the intimate knowledge of ourselves. And enticingly reveals the way those answers unlock every coffer. Here I choose to join those dark horizons.

Innerscape Lyrics Video out now: www.youtube.com/watch?v=PnlIYue-Bz8

Abeyance aims to reshape 90s Melodeath style, also through vocals and deep introspection-oriented lyrics, offering however its own sound and identity. Although the band is inspired by the old school sonorities, more modern influences can be found all along their music proposal.
The project was founded in early 2016 by drummer Michele Adami and vocalist Jacopo Marinelli. As Michele started the songwriting work, guitarists Gianluca Fraschini and Andrea Mantelli joined the band, contributing to the composition with a more progressive mark from the soloist Gianluca, and on the other side with a more classic riff structure from Andrea. Then bassist Rebecca Bertozzo took part in the band's rapid growth, until she left in middle-2018 for studying reasons. In summer 2018 The EP songs were almost complete, among others kept aside for future releases, so the band decided to enter the recording studio in November. Michele completed Rebecca's work and recorded the bass lines, in addition to his drums parts. Guitars and vocals shortly followed, until the EP was ultimated in late January.

"Take a step ahead and uncover what lies beyond the portrait of our kind, unthreading all those masks one by one... "Portraits of Mankind" comes with a 28 minutes long, 90s style driven Melodeath proposal, dispatched through 5 intense tracks. A right injection of more recent influences acts as a glue for this debut EP, making you discover its sound and identity. Riffs and solos are structured to release all the genre potential and variety, rhythm and emotive charge as well, even through deep and mostly introspection-oriented lyrics. Vocals consist in a classic growl technique, with mid-pitched and harsh singing that spreads all along the EP with an aggressive tone.
The composition work took more than 2 years, since the tracks were carefully shaped and arranged in ways that finally satisfied the band expectations. The goal was to create something more than appealing, coming from Melodic Death Metal fans for the Melodeath fans, with the challenging job of bringing back to the ears and minds not just some old school metal music but also feelings and perceptions. Lyrics too had a very significant treatment and were weaved to make them stand out in an enthralling way, unraveling through many metaphoric and allegorical narrations."
